The fast, discreet home sleep study rental
Get your completely confidential results in days
The Finger Pulse Oximeter Test is your first stop for having your suspected Sleep Apnoea confirmed. This sleep study means you rent the equipment for one or two nights and have the data analysed by a sleep technician. Within days you will get a report which will confirm whether or not you have Sleep Apnoea, and will then enable you to get the CPAP equipment you need to start treating your condition, and start enjoying a good night's sleep again. Our confidential service means that the only person we give your results to are you.
What is a Pulse Oximeter?
The Pulse Oximeter test is a combination of a finger sensor and a wrist strap, which monitor your heart rate and oxygen levels during the night. When you have an apnoea, your airways are blocked momentarily and so your oxygen levels drop, and your heart rate increases to counteract it. The Finger Pulse Oximeter is therefore able to identify how many times this happens, and give a clear indication of whether or not the wearer is suffering from Sleep Apnoea. The device is small and comfortable to wear, and will not inhibit your regular sleep. You will also be asked to fill in a questionnaire to help us get a better picture of your sleep habits.
How does it compare to an NHS sleep study?
The equipment we use is exactly the same as the NHS use for 80% of their sleep studies. The difference is that with us you will get the study delivered the next day, whereas the NHS waiting list is around three months on average for a sleep study – and then you will have to wait for your results and a few more months for your equipment. With us, you can go from ordering the study to receiving your equipment within three weeks. If you're reading this, chances are your condition has reached breaking point. Can you afford to wait another year before receiving the treatment you need?
If I do have Sleep Apnoea, will the DVLA take away my driving license?
At Intus Healthcare, all of our sleep studies are completely confidential - nobody will know the results except you. You are the only person we give the results to – your results are your results. It is up to you to inform the DVLA about your condition. If you choose not to, then that is your choice and your responsibility. With Intus, you can receive your equipment within a few days of your results. With the NHS this can be several months, meaning you may not be allowed to drive during that period. Many people rely on driving for their careers – which is why they choose our fast, confidential service.
Why do I need to take this test?
If you think you may have Sleep Apnoea, the Finger Pulse Oximetry Test is the fastest and most cost-effective way to get a confirmation. Particularly if you snore and suffer from daytime sleepiness, it is important to get tested. If you have untreated sleep apnoea, you could be a ticking time bomb – you could fall asleep while driving or at work, and your chances of having a stroke or heart problems are greatly increased. For most people, ignoring the problem simply is not an option.
How likely am I to get a conclusive result?
To date, 88% of people who have taken the Pulse Oximetry test through us have had their Sleep Apnoea confirmed – the chances are if you think you have it, you probably do, and this test will then allow you to get the equipment you need to treat it. This test can only confirm Sleep Apnoea being present however, it can not rule it out. In a very small minority of cases, you may be advised to take the Multi-Channel Sleep Study to give more conclusive results.
What happens once I've got my confirmation?
If your results come back indicating you have Sleep Apnoea, this will allow you to start getting the treatement you need. You can purchase an Automatic CPAP machine privately through us, or you can take your results to your GP or Sleep Clinic and join the waiting list to get the equipment that way. We find that most people choose to purchase their equipment privately as they simply cannot wait for months for the equipment, especially when they can get it within days privately.
Please be aware that the results of your test may come back inconclusive. In this unlikely event, we will recommend you take the Multi-Channel Respiratory Sleep Study as well, in order for us to find out exactly what is happening and discover what caused the Fulger Pulse results to be inconclusive. However, only around 1 in 10 will find this to be the case.
Who cannot take this test?
Based on guidelines and clinical research, we regret to inform you that finger pulse oximetry alone will not yield data reliable enough to come to a meaningful treatment recommendation if one or more of the following are applicable to you:
- Your Body Mass Index (BMI) is 40 or over *
- Your BMI is 25 or below (you are not overweight) *
- You suffer from COPD or Narcolepsy **
- You suffer from, or have suffered from neuromuscular disease (such as stroke, Parkinson's, MS) **
- You have a history of cardiovascular (heart) problems **
* If this applies to you, please refer to our multi-channel respiratory sleep study, also found on this website.
** If this applies to you, we regret to advise you Intus can not help you with a suitable sleep study. We advise you to see a consultant and seek a thorough sleep analysis through a Polysomnogram.
